Maison Art déco, Nieuwstraat 48 — Maldegem

Art Deco terraced house, dated 'anno 1928' above the door. A single-fronted house with a narrow door bay on the left and a wide side projection framed by giant pilasters, it is faced in white glazed brick on a high bluestone plinth pierced by a basement opening and a boot scraper. The mitre-arched doorway sits in a stepped surround with a keystone; the original oak door has a glazed fanlight and panels with Art Deco ironwork. The rectangular windows and the curved bay window on the upper floor keep their joinery and some coloured glass; the cornice and the pseudo-mansard roof have been renewed. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
