Café named after an old inn of the same name a little further along the old Market, built in 1933 in the Art Deco style according to the cadastral records, which retains its shopfront and fittings. The front, with a central door and wide windows, has fanlights of etched glass with geometric Art Deco motifs, a plinth of black faience tiles and a surround of blue tiles. The brick upper floor has a full-width bay-window projection with corner windows and a central balcony, formerly bearing a recumbent lion, under a small hipped roof. The 1930s café interior retains its timber panelling with inset mirrors and benches, a tall bar counter with a clock in a pediment, and a grey cement-tile floor with a geometric pattern of white and black chequered bands. The café lies within the protected site of the parish church of Saint Barbara and its surroundings (1981) and is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
