Édouard Frankinet
Born in Theux in 1877 and died in Dinant in 1937, Édouard Frankinet studied architecture at the Saint-Luc school in Liège (1896-1900), where he met Paul Cauchie. Based in Brussels from 1903 to 1907, he built his own geometric Art Nouveau house in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert before settling in Dinant. After 1918 he played a central part in the reconstruction of Dinant and won the casino competition in 1920; the building was completed in 1931. His style moved from Art Nouveau towards a simplified idiom close to Art Deco, with references to the Meuse regional tradition; in Namur he designed the Crédit mutuel hypothécaire building (1928-1929) in the Carmes district, as well as the Château de l'Argilière at Saint-Gérard.
