Pair of semi-detached Art Deco townhouses built for F. Claes, postmaster in Deurne-Zuid, after a 1930 building application whose designer is not known. The red brick façades with cornices on a bluestone plinth contrast with the imitation-stone render around the openings; the wider, richer right-hand façade is articulated by continuous pilaster strips flanking the oriel bay and the door bay. The three-sided oriel of the bel-étage is crowned by a balcony with an Art Deco railing; ribbed motifs adorn the parapets and recur above the upper windows, framed there by flower garlands, and a band of garlands runs below the cornice; the joinery, wrought-iron grilles and Art Deco glass are preserved. The rear was altered in 1993; the pair is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
