Doctor's house in an Art Deco style influenced by the Amsterdam School, on the corner of Kaasrui and Schoenmakersstraat, built for the physician Gabriel De Bie to a 1932 design by the architect Arthur Smet: the corner building was entirely rebuilt and the adjoining neoclassical house refitted. The design approved in May 1932 provided for a tall gable under a pitched roof, reduced in November 1932 to the present squat, broken gable and a pseudo-mansard with roof terrace. The corner building stands out for its sculptural modelling and contrasting materials — brown brick for the base, yellow brick above — and a tall polygonal oriel on the bel-étage; the ground-floor windows were lowered in 1961 when the architect Stan Soetewey converted it into a café. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
