This covered shopping arcade, laid out in 1892 between the Vlaanderenstraat and the Christinastraat, was extended through to the Christinastraat in 1928, where an Art Deco apartment building was built as a façade housing the arcade entrance and shop and catering premises. Signed by the Ostend architect A.V. Fobert, it has four storeys and a mezzanine under a flat roof, ten bays wide, and its façade is an Art Deco interpretation of the one on the Vlaanderenstraat. In 1945 the architect A.J. Vanden Berghe replaced the glazed roof with a dome of prismatic glass tiles; the arcade was officially renamed the James Ensor arcade in 1954. The complex has been protected as a monument since 2002.
