The buildings of the former flax mill founded around 1870 on the canal bank, taken over in 1912 by the socialist Vooruit textile trust as "La Nouvelle Linière du Canal", were erected in 1924 to designs by Ferdinand Dierkens, according to the facade stone and the building permit application. The facade falls into two seven-bay wings separated by a built-over entrance with a gable: on the right, the former offices, between corner projections framed by pilasters with Art Deco ornament, with round-arched windows whose spandrels carry Art Deco cartouches intended for the names of the continents; on the left, the former warehouse, three storeys high and plainer. Occupied from 1945 by the mobile gendarmerie, the site was partly demolished and rebuilt, but the canal-side buildings were preserved; their interiors were entirely adapted.
