August Waterschoot
August Waterschoot, born in Sint-Niklaas in 1864 and died in De Panne on 30 May 1940, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in his home town. City architect of Sint-Niklaas, he also had a private practice, moving from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. He was the father of the architects Leander and Raphaël Waterschoot. In the early 1930s, with his son Leander, he designed many of the houses on Mgr. Stillemansstraat, a development approved in 1929. In Sint-Niklaas he is credited with the Spaenhoven house (1931), the house of the Ghijs sisters (1931), with geometric and colourful decoration, and the Vandevijver house (1932), in some cases together with Leander.
