The centrepiece of the landscaping of the demilitarised Citadel, the Théâtre de Verdure forms a homogeneous ensemble with the Stade des Jeux in painted reinforced concrete, designed by the architect Georges Hobé, signed four times and dated 1910; it was built by the contractor Maurice Prax. In an Art Deco style influenced by the Vienna Secession, this open-air theatre has a raised stage framed by two pairs of columns bearing allegories of Tragedy and Comedy, beneath a pediment. The semicircular tiers, set into the slope, are reached from above through two Cottage-style limestone pavilions. The theatre and the Stade des Jeux have been listed since 2015.
