The centrepiece of the redevelopment of the Namur Citadel, demilitarised since 1891, this monumental stadium in painted reinforced concrete was designed by the architect Georges Hobé, who signed it four times, and is dated 1910; the contractor Maurice Prax carried out the work. It forms a homogeneous ensemble with the Théâtre de Verdure. A slightly curved promenade gallery with geometric Art Deco decoration, strongly influenced by the Vienna Secession, overlooks the arena; the royal box, whose pediment bears the inscription “Ludus pro Patria”, forms the axis of the composition, flanked by galleries punctuated by pairs of columns. The stadium and the open-air theatre have been protected as a listed monument since 27 November 2015.
