A covered street linking Rue de l'Université to the Vinâve d'Île, built to plans by Louis-Désiré Lemonnier and opened in 1839, then completely transformed in 1934 by the architect Henri Snyers in a modernist style tinged with Art Deco. Two shop-lined galleries meet beneath a rotunda crowned by an ovoid dome on eight reinforced-concrete ribs; gilded mosaics, statues by M. Schoofs, yellow marble panelling and wrought-iron doors complete the decoration. Only the original neoclassical facades survive.
