Erected at the initiative of the association of former Fusiliers marins through a national subscription, this monument was inaugurated on 11 November 1929. The city architect Jean-Marie Morel designed its symmetrical composition in pink sandstone, on either side of a column bearing a statue of Joan of Arc; the sculptor Félix Desruelles produced the bas-reliefs, a frieze inspired by the Parthenon treated in an Art Deco version. The monument as a whole has been a registered historic monument (inscrit MH) since 2019; it is not listed (classé).
