The neo-Gothic Gesù church, built from 1860 to 1865 for the Jesuit community of Rue Royale, received a new brick facade designed by Antoine Courtens between 1937 and 1939. As the church was no longer visible from the street, the facade is dominated by an Art Deco brick bell tower; the large arched portal carries a tympanum, statues of the twelve apostles and a rose window, in a more traditional register. The church is now closed to worship.
