Kortrijk
Kortrijk — from Graaf de Smet de Naeyerlaan to Doorniksewijk, via Prinses Marie-Joséplein
In Kortrijk, this route brings together nine Art Deco houses from 1927 to 1937. It starts at a house of 1927 whose glazed door is protected by a wrought-iron grille bearing the client’s initials, then passes a house designed by M. Demeyere (1932), with a doorway of black glazed tiles. On Prinses Marie-Joséplein, the house Emiel Haesbrouck designed in 1935 has an oriel extended into a curved balcony, and the one by J. Bauwens (1932) an oriel crowned by ironwork with a floral motif. Then come a house by E. Vanhoecke (1927) on Passionistenlaan, a house of 1935 in red and black brick on Goedendaglaan, the semi-detached house Alphonse Vandenberghe designed in 1932 on Vredelaan and the colourful, geometric façade that Jules Ervyn, of Wevelgem, designed in 1936. The route ends on Doorniksewijk at Poly Scherpereel’s house (1937), one of whose pilasters once supported a flagpole.
