Kortrijk
Kortrijk — around Sint-Jansplein and Prinses Marie-Joséplein
In Kortrijk, this short route brings together twelve Art Deco buildings built between 1928 and 1936 between Sint-Jansplein, Prinses Marie-Joséplein, Passionistenlaan, Jan Breydellaan, Goedendaglaan and Vredelaan. On Sint-Jansplein, L. Vanneste played with brick bonds in 1928, and Gustaaf Albers designed the same year a brick façade with a blind niche and a rounded glazed projection. On Prinses Marie-Joséplein follow G. Eeckhoute’s corner house (1934), the house and offices Emiel Haesbrouck designed in 1933 and lived in, the homogeneous group by the Ghent architect Alexander Meuleman (1932), with a cement sawtooth frieze, and a house by Carlos Malfait (1934). Next come houses by Leopold Jose Nuyttens (1935) and A. Caesens (attributed, 1935), a house by Poly Scherpereel (1936), now painted white, two houses with basement garages by Gustaaf Albers (1932) and Lucien De Munnynck (1932-1933), and the 1932 “quadruple villa” attributed to Remi Delarue.
