Built from 1926 to 1933 under the direction of the engineer-architect Eugène François, assisted by Alexis Dumont, who designed the monumental asymmetrical Art Deco-inspired façade, the Institut des Arts et Métiers stands on the site of the former municipal slaughterhouse, demolished in 1926. The façade is dominated by a rotunda preceded by an annular vestibule and flanked by two stepped truncated-pyramid pylons. The sculptures are by Marcel Rau and Jean Canneel.
