Designed by Émile Dubuisson, Lille's town hall was built from 1924, and its belfry, decided on in 1925, was inaugurated in 1932. The building combines a reinforced-concrete frame, brick cladding and glazed ceramics in a regionalist style with an Art Deco spirit, inspired by the Flemish Renaissance. The belfry is one of the belfries inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. The complex was listed as a historic monument by decree of 3 May 2002, excluding the contemporary extension.
