Workers' estate of 53 houses built from 1928 to 1931 as the first project of the social housing company Tuinwijk, to plans by the architect Hubert De Maen; because of the economic crisis, 69 further planned houses were never built. The two-storey houses, in red brick on a dark-red brick plinth with white-painted concrete elements, have slightly projecting stair bays with continuous vertical windows, concrete canopies and decorative brown-brick bonding; an electricity substation of the same period, in a matching idiom, stands at the start of Tuinwijkstraat. The inventory describes the style as a rationalised Art Deco, geometric in inspiration but with rather strict horizontal lines. The interiors and the grounds were renovated in 1952-1953, and the estate is recorded in the architectural heritage inventory.
