Entirely destroyed during the First World War, the department store known as Le Grand Bazar, later Les Nouvelles Galeries, was rebuilt from 1922 to 1927 under the direction of the architect Sylvère Laville, with Julien Heulot. The L-shaped building presents three façades on rue de la Sellerie, rue Saint-Jacques and rue Anatole-France. Its largely glazed upper floors hide a reinforced-concrete structure behind fluted stucco pilasters, and the attic is crowned with a sculpted frieze of floral and plant decoration. The façades, roofs and interiors of the upper floors were listed as a historic monument by order of 27 November 2023.
