Ernest Apers, born in Boom on 23 December 1883 and died in Heverlee on 19 November 1959, studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and then set up in his home town. In 1917 he moved to Leuven and joined the Boerenbond, the Belgian farmers' league. In 1920 he settled in Roeselare, where he took part in the reconstruction of the town and became a member of the Kring der Bouwmeesters van Roeselare. He was an architect for the social housing company De Mandel and became the appointed architect of the Eigen Heerd company of Rumbeke. He also built Art Deco houses, such as the 1924 house at Henri Horriestraat 10 or the 1932 house at Krekelstraat 50. In Rumbeke he also designed the Tanghe shop and printing works (1932, extended in 1935).
