Charles Hoge

Charles Hoge, born in Ghent on 7 January 1890 and died in the same city on 22 September 1962, was a Ghent architect who worked in several styles, including neo-rococo and Art Deco. In 1929 he built his own house on the corner of Congreslaan and Onafhankelijkheidslaan in Ghent. There he combined, among others, elements of the Flemish Renaissance and of Anglo-Norman architecture, a manner he went on to develop with his son Gérald and which became known in Ghent as the "style Hoge". He also worked in the Kortrijk area and on the coast. In his Art Deco period he signed in 1926 the façade of a town house on Nieuwstraat in Tielt and, in 1927, two houses in Sint-Niklaas, including the Van Naemen house.
