A pioneering project in Europe, commissioned in 1921 by the developer Lucien Kaisin from the Swiss architect Michel Polak. Résidence Palace was conceived as a "small city within the big one": luxury apartments, a theatre, an Art Deco swimming pool, restaurants and sports facilities. Inaugurated in 1927, the complex was occupied by the Germans in 1941. Block A was demolished to make way for the Europa building, seat of the European Council. The complex has been a listed monument since 2004.
