Maison du peuple De Volksvriend — Courtrai

The "De Volksvriend" people's house of 1933, formerly "Het Vlaams Huis", in Rollegem. Its Art Deco front façade with a modernist touch, in yellow brick alternating with roughcast of the same colour, is marked by a play of horizontals and verticals, notably through continuous sills and windows with glazing bars, and is broadly opened up by large rectangular openings. On the right, a gateway bay carried up the façade has a multi-sided bay window ending in a glazed band beneath a strongly projecting flat roof. The gateway leads to a small court of single-storey houses (nos 13-17), with renewed roughcast. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
