Designed by the architect Louis Duthoit, whose plans submitted in 1927 were approved by the municipal council, the Amiens school of fine arts and music was built by the Paris firm Parisy et fils from early 1928 to March 1931, shortly after the architect's death. The French heritage inventory describes it as an Art Deco building. Its U-shaped plan combines a central block housing the former festival hall, now an auditorium, with two perpendicular wings, one for the fine arts school and the other for the music conservatory, each with its own entrance. The wrought-iron doors with geometric motifs are topped by stone canopies set with circular glass blocks, and the decoration combines comedy masks, stone reliefs allegorising drawing and music, dentil friezes and geometric friezes of gilded and polychrome mosaic. The forecourt, closed by a wrought-iron railing, contains a stone sculpture group by Albert Roze.
