The Royal Academy of Dendermonde was rebuilt after the bombardments of 1914 to plans of 1924 by the city architect Fernand de Ruddere. He designed an imposing front building in an Art Deco notable for Dendermonde, influenced by functionalism and with reminiscences of Egyptian art, and incorporated the surviving wings of the 1883 academy. The building was inaugurated in 1926 for the institution's 125th anniversary and has been listed since 1995 (front building and facade).
