Richard Acke
Richard Acke (1873-1934) was an architect from Kortrijk, also trained as a painter at the Kortrijk Academy, influenced by Arts and Crafts and by Berlage. He built the Vlaams Huis in Kortrijk (1910-1913), now protected. After the First World War he took part in reconstruction work, notably the beguinage of Diksmuide (1923-1933), and in the Meiboom district of Roeselare. In 1921 he built the De Gouden Lanteern cinema on Jan Persijnstraat in Kortrijk, with about 700 seats, described by Cinema Treasures as the first reinforced-concrete building in the city.
