In front of the parish church of Velaines, this Art Deco war memorial was inaugurated in September 1922. It takes the form of a lantern of the dead: built of brick and above all limestone, the small structure combines two squat columns, each decorated with a sword, and a round arch under a truncated gable, crowned by a small lantern topped with a little copper dome. At the back, a stone stele pierced with a cross bears the names of the war victims; a wrought-iron railing on small piers forms an integral part of the memorial.
