On the corner of Place Vandervelde, the Maison du Peuple of Dour is an Art Deco building constructed in 1928 by the architect A. Van Craenenbroeck for the cooperative society of the "Socialistes réunis", founded in 1895. A true avant-garde architectural manifesto, it was once complemented by a cinema; today only the café still bears witness to the scale of the cooperative complex in the Trichères district. Its assertive corner position, its architectural boldness and the quality of its interior space and decoration make it one of the landmark buildings of the municipality. Its façades, roofs and café hall have been listed since 1982.
