Maison double avec commerce, Schoolstraat 16-18 — Wetteren

An interwar building designed to a 1932 plan as a double house with shop space, commissioned by Mr J. Michaut and designed by the Wetteren architect Joseph Michaut. The symmetrical Art Deco facade, of three storeys and three bays under a flat roof, has a stepped brick front with bands and decorative elements in imitation natural stone. The shopfront, clad in brown tiles now painted over, opens through a chamfered central entrance, and the first floor is taken up by a full-width oriel with bevelled corners and a central terrace under a canopy.
